Is it possible for us to become immune to advertisements?
Looking around you can see that our world is saturated in advertisements. Whether its listening to the radio, watching T.V., taking a drive, or watching a movie we are constantly being bombarded with advertisements. Many times we are able to "ignore" the ads by either changing the channel, leaving the room, or just "not listen." But are the ads really not seeping in? Some say that they are able to create subliminal messages or go below our conscious awareness. Companies are catching on to our tricks of avoiding commercial breaks and hitting us hard where they know we spend our time- the internet. It could be a pop-up on the side of the site, a commercial before or during your Youtube video or social media. I constantly see ads turning to social media to try to "connect" with us, tweeting, facebooking, invading our music on Pandora. So are we able to become immune or are the company's ads evolving enough with us to still contain our attention?
I really can't say that we're immune, in fact, I'd say the idea that we're immune to ads helps advertising companies even more. Every jingle that you remember, the cool ad that you watched, or the really bad one, all advertisers want is that you remember their product when you make a decision, and one is more likely to go with "like a good neighbor......" than a no-name brand.
ReplyDeleteI think we are becoming immune to them..... Because where just so use too seeing them on everything so we don't get excited seeing them because we see them so much.... They shouldn't have commercials on everything because they don't need to advertise there product all the time on every single network or anything,.
ReplyDeleteI believe that we are not immune to them but just really don't pay attention to the real message the advertisement is saying. Advertisements are always changing and the way they portray them to the world. Some commercials work great sending a message that is clear or even complex were you have to really have to watch the message there trying to tell you. I think if you watch advertisements never learning the meaning behind it then you will eventually become immune to them.
