Once a Great CIty
Detroit was once a great flourishing city, but now has become a city of ruin and rubble. Looking at the old pictures of how Detroit looked it was no different than looking at houses in beverlyhills. The streets were clean, the lawns were did and were the greenest I ever seen lawns look in Detroit, and it seemed like everyone was happy and had pride about there property and in there city. Now its a place of ruin and poverty. I have lived in Detroit all of my life before coming to Groves and can tell a lot has changed in Detroit since I was younger. Neighborhoods didn't look as bad as they do now, there were more people living in houses than they are now, and etc. On my block when I was a kid I remember people living in mostly every house in the neighborhood and people kept there houses up or kept it looking decent. Now when I revisit my old block its hardly anyone there with many vacant houses. Coming up i was sad to see my old house destroyed from squatters, spray painted, and not being kept up. Most people in Detroit have left to go to a different part of Detroit or a different state. Some people stay because they don't want to move from there home or just don't have the income to move. I spoke directly to Kwame Kilpatrick before and know Christine Beatty, her family, and daughters like they are my blood relatives. To me it seems like he has helped contribute to Detroit being how it is now. I believe that one day Detroit will be better like it used to be back in the day before I was born maybe before i am in my 40s or 50s. Detroit has the potential to be great under the right leadership and I know I will be alive to one day see my city come back on top how it used to be.

I appreciated that you were able to tell your personal story about your neighborhood and what you have personally seen happen in Detroit. I also enjoyed that you ended your blog with an uplifting and positive comment. I have heard many people talk about Detroit's come back as well as potential. I believe that it has plenty of untapped potential. It is exciting that it could, and hopefully will, achieve this come back within our lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI think a long time ago Detroit was a nice city now its all about crime and poverty. I wish we could change it all back because the world knows Detroit y what it looks like now instead of how good it use to be and good it use to look .I love your last sentence because i hope i get to see that day.
